Lesson Templates

30-minute lesson:

(recommended for beginner-level)

  • 00-05: Chat. Reflect on the past week’s practice. Discuss upcoming performances and/or assignments.

  • 05-10: Movement and Rhythm Skills. Move to music. Do rhythm exercises such as call and response.

  • 10-15: Warm-ups & Fundamentals. Scales and call and response scale patterns inspired by assigned music (eventually the theory of scales).

  • 15-25: Performance of Assigned Materials. Work on assignments from there, practicing how to practice, and making adjustments.

  • 25-30: Play Duets.

45-minute lesson:

(recommended for intermediate-level)

  • 00-05: Chat. Reflect on the past week’s practice. Discuss upcoming performances and/or assignments.

  • 05-20: Warm-ups, Fundamentals & Movement. Scales and call and response scale patterns inspired by assigned music. Theory of scales. Move to music and work on finger independence, posture, etc.

  • 20-35: Performance of Assigned Materials. Work on assignments from there and make adjustments.

  • 35-45: Sight-Reading & Duets

60-minute lesson:

(recommended for intermediate-advanced levels)

  • 00-05: Chat. Reflect on the past week’s practice. Discuss upcoming performances and/or assignments.

  • 05-20: Warm-ups, Fundamentals & Assigned Exercises. Work on tone, technique, articulation, and intonation exercises.

  • 20-40: Performance of Assigned Solo Repertoire Sections. Work on assignments from there and make adjustments. Related listening activities.

  • 40-60: Duets & Sight-Reading or Music School Preparation
